There are several ways that you can start decluttering your home right now. In addition to getting rid of old things that you don’t need, it is important to make sure that your home is well organized all the time. This can help you to determine what you should keep and what should go when it comes time to prune back on your belongings.
Prior to buying more items to have in your home, it is a good idea to have a plan for how you will organize them. If you don’t have a plan for how to organize your home, it will become messy over the course of time. Once you have this plan, it is essential to always stick to it.
Manage Your Time Well When It Comes To Organization:
If you have a lot of stuff, you will not be able to simply re-organize your house over the course of a day or part of a day. Instead, you’ll likely need at least several uninterrupted days to work on it. If you have other obligations, it is likely to get neglected if you attempt to do it all at once. Rather than doing all of the organizing and decluttering in one day, you should plan to do it over the course of a significant period of time.
Finish What You Start:
When you set out to clean up a part of your home, it is essential to follow through with any aspect of it that you set out to. Many people find themselves not finishing what they started, and this can lead to important organization being ignored.
Invest In Shelving And Cabinetry:
Shelving and cabinetry is essential for keeping your home organized. When you use them, you can ensure that you know where items are at all times. You will be able to put a system in place for what is contained in the drawers of dressers and what is contained on certain shelves.
Pay Attention To How Visible An Item Is:
If something has an important purpose, it would be especially frustrating to not be able to find it. Important or frequently used items should be placed somewhere that is more visible. After you use it, you should be especially mindful to put it back where it’s easy to find.
Have An Annual Garage Sale Or Other Mass Removal Of Items:
One way to declutter your home and make money doing it is to have a garage sale once a year. A garage sale can actually be fairly profitable, depending on the nature of the items that you want to get rid of. However, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of strangers coming to your home, there are ways you can make money off your stuff without having a garage sale. In fact, you can gather up items that you want to get rid of and sell them online. If you have items that you do not think you will be able to sell, you can give them away at a local charity. If they are completely unusable, you can simply throw them out.
Another way to handle this is to regularly take items to your local Goodwill or other thrift shop that takes donations. In my household, we have a quarterly trip to the local Goodwill, which helps us to keep our clutter to a minimum.
With these tips, you should be well on your way to keeping your household off one of those hoarders reality shows!
