Alarm Clocks

We’ve all been there. You’re pretty sure you didn’t hit snooze. And you certainly couldn’t have switched off the alarm clock and gone back to sleep. Or maybe you did? If you are a heavy sleeper, chances are you will sleep through a regular alarm.

And that’s bad news if you have to get up in the morning.

Thankfully there are now a number of solutions, one of which is using an alarm clock for heavy sleepers. We take a look at the best ones on the market. Wake up and read on.

Sonic Alert SBB500SS Sonic Bomb Loud Dual Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker

The Sonic Alert Bomb alarm clock quite literally shakes you right out of bed. The vibrating alarm clock will make sure you don’t roll over and go back to sleep. And if the shaking of your bed isn’t enough, the 113db super loud noise of the alarm will surely do the job.

The ability to adjust not only the volume, but also the tone, is an advantage for people that might be hearing impaired. The variable tone will make it easier to hear and thus wake up without sleeping through even the loudest of volume settings.

It is a light and compact clock, fitting nicely on any nightstand. The display is large, enabling the early morning blurry eyed among us to see the time clearly.

If you don’t want to wake up anyone else sharing a room or bed with you, the ability to switch off the alarm and just use the bed shaker is a bonus.

There is a snooze feature which can be set from between 1 to 30 minutes. The alarm can be set from 1 to 59 minutes.

Great For – Heavy sleepers, hearing impaired and people who don’t sleep alone.

LCD Display Running Alarm Clock, Black Runaway Clock on Wheels for Heavy Sleepers

This running alarm clock is more than just a fun novelty gift. Can you imagine chasing a noisy alarm clock around your house? It would certainly wake you up! Well that is exactly what this clock does. As soon as it is time to get up, your alarm clock will roll off your nightstand (or wherever you choose to place it) and run away for 30 seconds. It will then rest whilst still beeping for the next 9 minutes or until you decide to get up and switch it off.

The alarm clock runs best on a wooden floor but can work on some carpets, as long as it isn’t too thick.

Great For – Heavy sleepers who press the snooze button too quickly. Fun novelty gift for children and adults.

Instecho Rug Carpet Alarm Clock

Another unique alarm clock for heavy sleepers. This rug carpet alarm clock is incredibly loud with a volume of between 90 and 120 decibels.

It works by playing a customized alarm sound that you can upload via a USB cable from your computer to the rug. The alarm will go off but won’t switch off until you put both your feet on it and leave them there for at least 3 seconds. You actually have to stand on the rug as it works by pressure. The act of getting out of bed and standing there should be enough to keep you awake.

If 3 seconds is not long enough to wake you up, you can extend the minimum time required to stand on the rug. 3 AAA batteries are required to work the rug.

Start your day with an inspirational message that you have recorded yourself, or play your favorite song to really get you ready to start the day.

Great For: People who require physical movement to wake themselves up from a deep sleep.

Sunrise Alarm Clock Radio

Sunrise alarm clocks are popular for those who prefer to wake up naturally to simulated sunlight.

This alarm clock is probably the most subtle in noise out of all of those reviewed. It is visually appealing and the different mood colors are pretty and soothing.

Although this is an alarm clock, intended to wake you up, it can also double up as a light to read a book when set on the highest level. The added bonus of a FM radio is useful to listen to music too.

The sunrise light works by waking you up gently with 10 different levels of brightness, with the idea that you will gradually go from a deep sleep to a lighter sleep, and then wake up fully. There are 7 different colors that the clock changes through, as well as 7 different sounds such as birds, waves as well as alarm beeps.

Although this alarm clock works to wake people up in perhaps a kinder and more natural way than the previously reviewed clocks, it perhaps won’t work to wake up the deeper sleepers.

Great For: People who like to wake up naturally to sunrise, lighter sleepers
